11 april, 2024

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu informed Adrienn Kiraly, Director of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) at the European Commission, about holding a referendum in autumn on Moldova's accession to the EU.

According to INFOTAG, Grosu wrote about this on social media after the meeting in Chisinau, highlighting the parliament's role in organizing the plebiscite.

“The first step has already been taken. In the coming months, our mission is to go out and talk to people about the benefits of integration into the EU,” Grosu wrote.

During the meeting were discussed the parliament's priorities and Moldova's progress towards the EU.

“We are in the process of meeting three conditions for EU membership - judicial reform, fighting corruption, and de-oligarchization. The discussion also focused on amendments to the Electoral Code providing for postal voting in Canada and the USA (in the presidential elections this autumn – “I.”). We also discussed the role of the media in the electoral process,” wrote the speaker of parliament.
