​PARLIAMENT CHAIR: IT'S TIME TO CLEARLY STATE IN THE CONSTITUTION – OUR PLACE IS IN THE EU

It's time to clearly state in the Constitution that our place is in the EU. As reported by INFOTAG, this statement was made by the Chairman of the Parliament, leader of the ruling party “Action and Solidarity” Igor Grosu during a briefing on Friday.

Grosu announced that the PAS faction had registered a resolution project on holding a republican referendum, after the Constitutional Court gave a positive opinion on the document. The referendum will ask the question: “Do you support Moldova's accession to the European Union?”

Grosu stated that the parliament would soon make a decision, and the referendum would take place on the same day as the presidential elections – October 20.

“On this day, October 20, the voice of the people should clearly indicate the direction in which the Republic of Moldova should move. The sovereign decision of the citizens will be reflected in the Constitution. As I have said before – we cannot afford to waste time. It's time to clearly state in the Constitution – our place in the European Union family, where peace is guaranteed, prosperity is ensured. We are Europeans. Our history shows that we are Europeans. The values we adhere to confirm that Moldovans are Europeans. And we deserve to have the same standard of living, the same rights and freedoms as EU countries,” Grosu said.

He called on everyone – parties, non-governmental organizations, the diaspora – to support the idea of European integration because “Moldova's accession to the EU is a goal that is above political interests.”
