CHAIRMAN OF MOLDOVA'S PARLIAMENT ASKS FOR HELP FROM EU COUNTRIES TO COUNTER RUSSIA'S HYBRID THREATS

23 april, 2024

The Chairman of Moldova's Parliament, Igor Grosu, has requested assistance from EU countries to counter hybrid threats from Russia. As reported by the INFOTAG agency, Grosu made this statement during his speech at the Conference of Speakers of EU Parliaments, held in Spain.

Grosu wrote on his Facebook page that during his speech, he called on conference participants to “help us continue the fight for democracy, modernization, and progress.” He emphasized the importance of this in the context of the upcoming presidential elections and the referendum on Moldova's accession to the EU, scheduled for this autumn.

”We are confident that Russia will spare no effort to disrupt this process. In order to mislead public opinion, sow panic and anxiety among the population, sophisticated modern technologies are being used, including artificial intelligence and, in particular, information channels. The aim of these extensive slanderous and disinformation campaigns is to influence the results of the presidential elections and divert Moldova from its European course,” noted the Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament.

He also urged partners to provide assistance to Ukraine, which is “fighting for peace and freedom on the European continent.”

”Supporting Ukraine also means supporting Moldova because our countries have decided to break away from the former empire and live in a free, peaceful, and prosperous world. This is our civilizational choice. I am confident that together we will succeed, although it will not be easy. But with prudence, patience, and perseverance, we will ensure that our future and the future of our children are peaceful and prosperous,” Grosu wrote.
