01 august, 2018

Every fifth citizen of Moldova intends to leave the country within next six months, as per the findings of the sociological study CBX-AXA People Watch “Quality of Life and Migration”, carried out by the “Viitorul” [Future] Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) in July.

The survey authors noted that there is an increase in the migration trend in the country by almost 25% – in 2017, when only every sixth citizen of Moldova was going to leave the country.

“The dominant group of future migrants includes citizens aged 18-29. Their share has increased by only 2% (from 28% to 30%) compared to 2017, while the number of middle – aged people (30-40 years old) wishing to leave the country has increased much more significantly – from 17.1% to 28%”, the experts noted.

According to them, the share of the working-age population (18-59 years), intending to leave Moldova, also increased from 19.9% to 24.4%, i.e. every fourth citizen of the republic.

The study was conducted between June 29 to July 9, involving 1,040 respondents. The pollsters are saying the error should not be in the excess of ±2.5%.
