22 april, 2024

President Maia Sandu welcomed the decision of the US House of Representatives to provide military aid to Ukraine. As reported by INFOTAG, President Maia Sandu wrote about this on her X platform page (formerly Twitter).

“I welcome the approval by the US House of Representatives of a vital aid package to Ukraine — $61 billion. This decisive support will strengthen Ukraine in its fight against aggression and enhance regional security,” Sandu wrote.

Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, who at this time had concluded his visit to Washington, where he participated in meetings as part of the Moldova-US Strategic Dialogue, wrote that his “return home from Washington after a very productive visit could not have ended better.”
«The approval by the Congress of additional aid to Ukraine is evidence of the US commitment to Ukraine's victory! Grateful for the support!” Popsoi wrote on X network.

PAS deputy Radu Marian wrote on his X channel that “this vote is crucial for maintaining peace and democracy in Moldova."

”As long as Ukraine remains free and independent, democratic and independent Moldova is safe,” Marian noted.

The US House of Representatives on Saturday approved the allocation of $95 billion for the security of Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The approved aid package includes over $61 billion for Ukraine and replenishment of American weapons stocks. The total amount allocated to Ukraine for weapon procurement will be $13.8 billion. Ukraine will receive over $9 billion in economic assistance in the form of “forgiven loans.”

The US will also allocate around $26 billion to support Israel and provide humanitarian aid to Gaza residents. About $4 billion of this amount will go towards replenishing Israeli missile defense systems. Over $9 billion will be allocated for humanitarian aid in Gaza amidst the military conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The package also includes measures such as sanctions, the threat of banning the Chinese-owned social media app TikTok, and potentially transferring confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine.
