GAS PROCUREMENT PRICE IN THE COMING MONTHS WILL ALLOW A REDUCTION IN TARIFFS FOR CONSUMERS – ALEXANDRU SLUSARI

23 april, 2024

Alexandru Slusari, a member of the administrative board of Energocom, believes that the projected gas procurement price will allow a reduction in tariffs for consumers. As reported by INFOTAG, Slusari wrote about this on his Facebook page, commenting on the auction results for gas procurement in May conducted by Moldovagaz on the BRM East Energy trading platform.

“Moldova is not returning to gas purchases from Gazprom in May. Despite the fact that Moldovagaz entered today's auction with a complex price formula and some unknown elements, the professionalism and experience of Energocom specialists allowed it to win by offering a lower price than expected from Gazprom in May. If there are no explosive fluctuations in gas prices on the exchanges in the next 7 days, approximate calculations show that Energocom will supply gas in May at a price of approximately $350 per 1000 cubic meters,” Slusari wrote.

In his opinion, “the market dynamics, especially in Romania, show that in the coming months, the gas procurement price will remain around $300-350 per 1000 cubic meters.”

“This will lead to a significant reduction in tariffs, long-awaited and deserved by the population and the economy. After Spinu's (Minister of Infrastructure) risky actions, the country deserves a stable period with low and predictable gas prices,” wrote the board member.

Slusari suggests a number of changes in the gas supply system and tariff formation in Moldova.

“It is necessary to change the methodology for setting tariffs, which under current conditions cannot be based on the average annual gas procurement price and should be more flexible. In the summer, Moldovagaz should announce a tender for gas supply for the entire cold season of 2024/2025, and then it will be possible to maintain a low procurement price regardless of the situation on the exchanges in autumn and winter,” Slusari believes.
