MOLDOVA WILL CELEBRATE EUROPEAN DAY ON MAY 9 - SPEAKER IGOR GROSU

30 april, 2024

“Great National Assembly Square will celebrate "Europe Day" on May 9,” Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said. He told PRO TV-Chisinau channel on Monday evening that law enforcement agencies are preparing to prevent public order violations on that day by separating those who will participate in the "Immortal Regiment" march.

Speaking about the socio-political situation in the Gagauz autonomy, Grosu emphasized that the Moldovan authorities "do not have a dialogue with bandits", but hold regular meetings with village mayors, the press, as well as businessmen and individual deputies of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia (PAG).

"At a certain time we had a normal dialog with the PAG chairman Dimitri Constantinov. But we did not notice any farce on his part," the speaker noted.

Asked why Moldova's ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) did not nominate its candidate for the autonomy's bashkan in the 2023 elections, Igor Grosu said that "this was the party's collective decision."

"We have our sympathizers in Gagauzia, but the decision was to not nominate a candidate from PAS. Whether it is right or not, time will show. But we did not think that someone can come and, by offering 50 euros for the elections, buy the future," he said.

Asked whether Evghenia Gutul will be included in the Moldovan government, Igor Grosu said in particular: "I do not believe that Gutul has such a chance".
