PRESIDENT MAIA SANDU ON THE SUSPENSION OF SOME MEDIA OUTLETS IN MOLDOVA: THEY WERE MEDIA OUTLETS OF MASS DISINFORMATION

07 may, 2024

President Maia Sandu said that the work of some media outlets in Moldova was suspended by the decision of the governmental bodies because they were engaged in spreading disinformation and contributed to destabilizing the situation in the country. As INFOTAG reports, Sandu said this in an interview with Russian journalist Yuri Dudi.

This is not censorship. (Because) this is not mass media, but mass disinformation... If the media do not comply with the law, of course decisions should be made... Everyone should comply with the law...illegal means are used to finance these things (media – “I”)..., Sandu said.

According to the president, the suspension of the media is related to their work, attempts to destabilize the situation in the country.

“This happens not only with the media... They (Shor's group – “I”) are trying to misinform, destabilize the country. Here recently, literally, two days ago, they tried to import a million dollars into our country, in order to finance such things. This is illegal. All this is happening in order to destabilize (the situation – “I”). This is not democracy. This is corruption. And we must very clearly distinguish between what can be done and what is illegal. The law must be respected by everyone,” the president said.

Sandu stressed that in Moldova all media can criticize the authorities. The presidential administration even sent the interviewer “a list of media outlets that regularly criticize the president and the party founded by Sandu”.
