20 march, 2017

The Chisinau Cinema “Odeon” hosted Japanese Film Festival on March 17-18. It was organized by Japanese Embassy to Chisinau on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Japan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Moldova Masanobu Yoshii said that already in August 2016, when he arrived to Chisinau, an idea appeared to organize a whole number of cultural events to strengthen cultural connections between the two countries.

According to him, Moldovan people are familiarized with such Japanese traditions and customs as anime, manga and ikebana.

“This time, we decided to organize a Japanese Film Festival, screening three movies which tell about Japanese culture”, Masanobu Yoshii said.

During two days, the festival guests had the opportunity not only to watch films in original with Romanian and English subtitles, but also to get acquainted with such art as ikebana, origami and shodo (calligraphy).

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Land of the Rising Sun were established on March 16, 1992.
