UNIFICATION MARCH GATHERED A COUPLE OF HUNDRED UNIONISTS IN CHISINAU

27 march, 2017

A couple of hundreds of Unionists [the adherents to the idea of Unire – Moldova’s unification with Romania] marched in Chisinau on Sunday, March 26 on the occasion of the anniversary of the Unire.

They marched along the main city street from the Moldovan Academy of Sciences (MAS) building to the Great National Assembly Square. They were holding a Romanian flag of 100 meters length, and later unfolded it in the main square. The march was blessed by priests of the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia [subordinate to the Romanian Orthodox Church].

Unionists were chanting slogans “Romania did not have borders on the Prut River”, “the Great Romania into old borders”, “Chisinau and Bucharest – two hearts of Romania”.

Leader of the Unionist association “Honor, Dignity and Motherland” (ODIP) Vlad Biletchi said at the march that for reunification of the motherland, it is necessary to step over the political ego, party leaders should be united.

“I am glad that we managed to lend a willing hand to people with Romanian heart. This is what should happen on each holiday, as enemies will try to divide us, while people are expecting unity from us”, he said.

Also, Biletchi said that the ODIP will be renamed into the Unirea/Unification Association.

The march was attended by deputies, politicians and activists, who stand for unification, including Chairwoman of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlicenco, leader of “The Right” Party Anna Gutu, LDPM deputy Maria Ciobanu.

Representatives of the Liberal Party did not participate in the march, as they are holding their activities to celebrate the Day of Unification anniversary on Monday. In the morning, before the beginning of the Chisinau Primaria [city government] meeting, they conducted a flash mob in front of the Primaria building. Liberals submitted to Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca a petition on renaming the city’s Moscow Boulevard into the Boulevard of Unification.

The LP activity agenda for today includes march, ceremonial meeting and a number of other events. In the evening, the Chisinau theater Ginta Latina will be hosting a concert “Unite for Unification”.

At the initiative of the Unirea/Unification Association and the Congress of Teachers, many educational institutions will hang out Romanian flags.
