RUSSIAN EMBASSY CONDEMNS DESECRATION OF MONUMENT TO POET ALEXANDER PUSHKIN IN FALESTI TOWN

23 november, 2017

The Russian Federation Embassy to Moldova has resolutely condemned the act of vandalism committed in the northern Moldovan town of Falesti – desecration of the monument to great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, “who symbolizes the centuries-long friendship and ties of the Russian and Moldovan peoples”.

In its statement, the Embassy wondered: “What drove the so-far unknown offenders – hooliganism motives or their desire to please the conductors of the anti-Russia course in Moldovan political circles? The desecration of the Pushkin monument in Falesti looks to be a particular disharmony to the recent unveiling in Russia of a monument to an outstanding Moldovan historic statesman – Gospodar [King] Dmitry Cantemir”.

The Russian Embassy called on the Moldovan authorities to take measures to restore the decapitated monument in Falesti and to thoroughly investigate the blasphemous act of vandalism that should not remain unpunished.
