03 octomber, 2018

A delegation of Moldovan athletes and coaches departed to Buenos Aires on Wednesday for participation in the Summer Youth Olympics 2018, which will take place in Argentina on October 6 through 18.

The team of 17 best athletes and their coaches, who got the right to represent Moldova at this tournament, were presented at a press conference in the National Olympic and Sports Committee (NOSC) on Tuesday.

Moldovan athletes will participate in competitions on 10 of 36 sports, among which swimming, Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, athletics, shooting, archery, badminton and table tennis.

For the first time in the history of Moldovan sports, vice-champion of European Cup Alexa Vasilianov will participate in the tournament on the modern pentathlon. Also, after many-year break, a Moldova's representative Ivan Corshunov will take part in the Olympic rowing regatta (at the previous European Championship he got the 5th place).

The athletes represent sport centers of Chisinau (9), Tiraspol (3), Leova (2), Balti (1), Cimislia (1) and Stefan-Voda (1).

Head of the delegation, NOSC Chairman Nicolae Juravschi: "We hope for a successful performance of our athletes, as the team is made of winners and medalists of the world and European youth championships".

According to him, the results achieved in Argentina will become a check of the situation in Moldovan sports.

The design of Moldovan team uniform is similar with that of the neighboring Romania team (the difference is just the emblem of Moldova on the breast and the inscription "Moldova" on the back).

NOSC Chairman explained that this is due to the fact that 50 sets of Olympic uniform (each made of 15 components), were donated to the NOSC by the National Olympic Committee of Romania.
