WORLD PRESS PHOTO EXHIBITION OPENS IN NATIONAL MUSEUM

The Moldovan National Museum of History is hosting an exhibition of works by winners of the prestigious international premium World Press Photo 2018. It opened on Wednesday and will last till December 12.

According to the Center of Independent Journalism (CIJ), which organized the event with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands to Moldova, the exhibition is held in Chisinau for the second consecutive year and represents a reflection of the year’s most important world events.

The contest was held for the 61st time. Over 5 thousand photo-reporters from 125 world countries submitted their works to it, while the jury selected 45 best photos of 73 thousand of the received pictures.

The exhibition will include 137 photos, made by photographers from 25 countries – Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Syria, the Czech Republic, the New Zealand, Turkey, the Great Britain and the USA.

The jury declared the work of photographer from Venezuela Ronaldo Schemidt as the Photo of the Year. It depicts a participant in anti-governmental protest in Karakas on May 3, 2017. The clothes of the 28-year-old Venezuelan caught fire when the nearby motorcycle exploded. He was brought to hospital with first-degree and second-degree burns.

The admission for adults costs 10 lei, for students – 5 lei.
