EU WILL SUPPORT RESTORATION OF TEN CULTURAL HERITAGE SITES FROM BOTH BANKS OF NISTRU RIVER

After consultations with experts and the public, the EU Confidence Building Measures Program has selected 10 cultural heritage projects from both banks of Dniester/Nistru River that will benefit from restoration works.

The selection process started in January 2020 with a call of proposals. By the end of February, 248 ideas had been received. The Cultural Heritage Monitoring Group, composed of local and international experts, created within the European Union Confidence Building Measures Program (EU CBM), has selected 30 objectives. Each of them was inspected by specialists for thorough documentation.

Later, 16 projects were exposed to a public voting process that ended on August 3 and registered about 37 thousand votes. The final decision on projects to be restored with the help of the European Union was taken considering both online voting constituted – 50%, and the decision of the Monitoring Group – 50%.

On the right river bank, the restoration works will include: a windmill in Gaidar village; a water tower in Soldanesti; the Macri family tomb in Dubasarii Vechi village; Museum in Dorotcaia village; as well as digitalization of animation films produced by the Moldova-Film studio.

And on the left river bank these are: a synagogue in Rascov village; an arts school auditorium in Bender; a wind tower in Stroiesti (Stroenti) village; a church in Rascov village; and a watermill in Beloci village.
