IRU LIFTS BAN ON TIR CARNETS IN MOLDOVA

23 july, 2014

The International Road Transport Union (IRU), the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure (MoT) and the International Association of Road Haulers of Moldova (AITA) have removed the ban on using the TIR carnets in Moldova by signing a corresponding agreement. On behalf of the AITA, the signatures were put by its Council Chairman Grigore Bernavschi and Secretary General Eugen Gubceac

On July 14-18, AITA Secretary General has visited the IRU office on Geneva, where he met with heads of all the IRU departments, discussing goals, objectives and modalities of the TIR system functioning.

At the end of his visit, Eugen Gubceac has met IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto, who said that he desires to be sure that the guarantee chain will not suffer because of the latest events in the AITA [acute conflict between two groups of the association founders] and reminded that AITA was among the top ten associations of 63 countries, where the TIR system is operating.

In his turn, AITA General Secretary has ensured the IRU that the Association will remain the same reliable partner in all respects.

The AITA association, as a major stakeholder of the Moldcargo insurance company, has set the goal to reduce the cost of the TIR carnet insurance.
