BANS ON MOLDOVANS ENTRY TO RUSSIA BECOME FREQUENT - FOREIGN MINISTRY

24 november, 2014

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova says that cases of applying a ban on Moldovans’ entry to Russia became more frequent in the last days.

According to the Ministry’s press service, there are numerous appeals of citizens, “who are asking to explain the procedure for applying the so-called “amnesty” from the part of Russian authorities in the period from November 5 to 30 for Moldovan citizens, who have exceeded the length of stay in the Russian territory and who desire to come back home for this period”. In connection to this, the Foreign Ministry explains that until now Russian authorities did not reacted to Moldovan authorities’ request to provide official information in relation to new rules of entry and departure from Russia for Moldovans, as well as terms of its application.

The Foreign Ministry is advising compatriots, who intend to return to the country during the specified period, to attentively study Russia’s active legislation concerning this topic.

In early November, after the meeting with Moldovan Socialists Party (PSRM) Chairman Igor Dodon, Head of the Russian Federal Migration Service Constantin Romodanovsky said that sanctions will not be applied to Moldovan citizens who have exceeded the length of stay in Russia, but who want to go home to vote at elections and they will have the opportunity to return to work in Russia. According to him, this regime will continue from November 5 to 30, while the term of Moldovans’ return to Russia is unlimited.

At the same time, on the Russian Migration Service website there is no official decision or order in relation to this. On November 6, the Foreign Ministry addressed an official request, in order to clarify provisions of Russian legislation, on the basis of which the new mechanism will be applied. The Foreign Affairs Ministry states that the request remained without any answer.
