​GOVERNMENT BANS IMPORTATION OF LIVE ANIMALS AND PRODUCTS FROM REGIONS AFFECTED BY AFRICAN SWINE FEVER

Moldova Government will introduce a ban on the importation of livestock and animal products from the Ukraine regions, which were affected with African swine fever. This decree will be prepared on an emergency basis and reviewed at the government meeting on Wednesday evening. This was discussed at the emergency meeting of government.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MoA) jointly with the National Food Security Agency (ANSA) will prepare a draft resolution, which will introduce a ban on import of live animals susceptible to the virus, meat products from risk areas and fodder from the regions affected by the African swine fever.

In order to minimize the possibility of disease spreading in Moldova, a broad information campaign about the risks and necessary actions in case of infection detection will be organized.

The African swine fever is an infectious disease that affects domestic and wild pigs. This virus is not caught by people, but can cause significant economic losses.
