The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) mandate will be extended till November 30, 2020. A corresponding initiative was approved by the Government on Wednesday.

According to the decree, the Mission’s goals for the next year will include the providing of support at Transnistrian conflict settlement, including by means of support to confidence-building measures between the two sides of the Dniester River, as well as the provision of assistance to Moldova and Ukraine in combating cross-border crime and illegal traffic.

According to the Government, the extension of the EUBAM mandate will have a positive impact on the entire process of complex administration of state borders within the context of fulfilling liabilities, adopted by Moldova within the EU-Moldova Association Agreement.

The Mission is providing consultative assistance to customs and border agencies of the two countries, in particular for implementing European norms of security on the border. The EUBAM has started its work on December 1, 2005.
