31 january, 2018

The Apa-Canal municipal water/sewage company launched on Tuesday the project “Reconstruction of wastewater treatment plant and building of anti-clogging station”, which is implemented with financial assistance of the EBRD, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union.

According to Apa-Canal, at the official ceremony the enterprise director Veronica Herta pointed that due to the project implementation, Chisinau will forever get rid of unpleasant smell, which comes from treatment plants and causes discomfort to citizens.

“The installing of a new system will reduce by one-third the volume of silt, while its collection and processing will allow receiving biogas, which will reduce the costs for energy resources by 50%”, Herta said.

Ambassador Peter Michalko, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova said that the project implementation is highly important not only for Chisinau – it will allow improving the environment conditions in the neighborhood of the Bic River.

“I hope that the project will be implemented maximally efficiently and the civil society will join its implementation”, he said.

The station reconstruction will be conducted by the German consortium Passavant Energy & Environment GmbH & LUDWIG PFEIFFER Hoch – und Tiefbau GmbH & Co. KG. The fulfillment of works is designed for 900 days. The financial support from the EBRD, EIB and the EU is worth 24.2 million euros, 11 million of which is EU grant.
