MOLDOVA RELIES ON RAISING TRACECA PERMIT QUOTA TO 500

Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici met with TRACECA [Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia] Secretary General Mircea Cepraga and said that Moldova hopes for raising the quota of permits for international automobile transportations via the corridor to 500 from 230.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the Moldovan minister explained that this will create attractive conditions for developing transportation via TRACECA including will improve the transport infrastructure.

Mircea Cepraga confirmed that participants of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission achieved an agreement to raise the number of permits to almost 500 for each participant country for raising the efficiency of the TRACECA permit system for international road transportation.

"Starting from January 1, 2019, Moldova may benefit from a larger number of permits for international cargo transportations. Corresponding amendments should be included in the technical document "TRACECA Multilateral Agreements. User Manual" for transportation operators", he said, inviting the Moldovan Minister to participate in the third TRACECA Investment Forum in May 2019, when Romania will be chairing the EU.

Currently, the TRACECA is implementing the "Multilateral basic agreement on international transportation for developing the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia". The program was created in May 1993 by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Moldova accessed it in 1999.
