MOLDOVAN GOVERNMENT OPTIMISTIC ABOUT SUPPLYING OF ANIMAL-ORIGIN PRODUCTS TO EU

31 july, 2018

The Moldovan Government intends to invite European experts to Moldova in September 2019 to assess the readiness of domestic exporters to supply goods of animal origin (meat and eggs) to the European Union markets.

According to the Government, this topic was discussed at the Monday’s special sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers, convened by Prime Minister Pavel Filip for discussing the roadmap for preparing for the audit.

“We have privileges, provided in the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) and we have to use them in full. The roadmap should include measures for overcoming all the legislative and institutional obstacles. The Moldovan exports to the EU may grow by at least 10% in case we are allowed to supply animal-origin products”, the premier said.

According to him, the plan has to include recommendations of a consultative mission, which visited Moldova in 2014. These concern the equipping and accrediting of laboratories, the creation of a center for processing meat products and bringing the legislative framework in accordance with European standards.

For this, Filip demanded mobilization of all the responsible institutions for establishing clear terms for fulfilling measures to ensure the success of the mission.

So far, Moldova is exporting to the EU market only bee honey and insignificant amount of caviar.
