CONCERNS ABOUT AA/DCFTA SIGNING PROVED TO BE GROUNDLESS - EXPERT-GRUP

21 september, 2018

Specialist Vadim Gumene said at the Thursday's news conference at Infotag that on September 1 it has been 4 years since the EU-Moldova Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) have entered into force.

Over this time, many internal and external problems occurred, which caused speculations on the advisability of these documents' signing.

"However, the statistical data show the opposite. Exports to EU countries over four years grew 22%, while Europe strengthened its position as Moldova's main trade partner, achieving a share of 69%", the expert said.

According to him, despite speculations about massive inflow of European goods in Moldova and the displacement of the local products, the volume of agricultural imports from the EU registered a 4% growth, while the industrial imports - 15%.

"Moreover, we can tell that the trade liberalization provided a positive influence on the agricultural goods, as it led to the growth of its production by over 40%", the Expert-Grup representative said.

He maintains that it is necessary to consolidate the efforts on implementing agreements to get maximum profit.
