04 december, 2018

A Strategy on IT-Sector Competitiveness Enhancement was presented on Monday. Its main goal is to raise the exports of informational technology services to US$200 million from US$120 million by 2023.

Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici said that the main idea of the document is not just the production and exporting of greater amount of IT-sector produce, but also the raising of the internal consumption.

"Marketing is one of priorities. I always say that we do not know how to promote ourselves and to sell our product. Another important element is the number of specialists, who are working in the IT sector, Currently, we are training around 1 thousand IT specialists, which is insufficient, as the demand for them is much higher than the supply", he said.

According to the minister, the third priority is the support to digital information, for which digital education is introduced in educational institutions, while with the support of external partners, the project "TwentyTu" is being implemented in Moldova for transforming the country's educational sector and providing to each fourth child the possibility to get professional education in the IT sphere.

The strategy also implies that the volume of internal sales should grow to US$45.8 million from US$33.5 million. For developing the human capital, it is proposed further implementation of digital education with permanent modification of the curriculum for supporting it up to date; for raising the internal consumption, the strategy proposes to motivate domestic enterprises to use modern technologies in production.
