MOLDOVA CITIZENS’ ATTITUDE TO REFORMS IS IMPROVING, BUT IS REMAINING NEGATIVE, SO FAR, AS POLL SHOWED

The Moldovan population’s attitude to reforms as a whole is gradually improving, but is still remaining negative, as per the findings of the opinion poll, carried out recently by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova.

The research has established that only 2.9% interviewed citizens believe that the reforms under way in the republic are “very efficient”, 32.5% believe that the reforms are “efficient to a certain extent”, 46.4% said – not very efficient and 15.8% believe they are useless.

Compared with January 2018, the number of those who regard the reforms to be efficient to a certain extent has grown by 8.3%, and of those who are more skeptical about the reform efficiency – dropped by 6.6%.

The highest proportion of respondents, who are positively perceiving the current situation, turned out to be in the culture sphere (46.3%), the functioning of local and regional administrations (42.4%), reforms in the education sector (38.5%), in foreign policy (34.3%), the reform of the central authorities (32.5%), struggle against corruption (31.8%).

The judiciary reform is being criticized by the largest number of interviewed citizens – 78.7%. Following it, by the proportion of negative remarks, are the situations in the economy sphere (68.1%), the banking sector reform (65.3%), the pension reform (64.7%), and Transnistrian conflict settlement (64.4%).

The opinion research was carried out on January 4-19. It covered 1l79 people eligible to vote, residing in 81 various-type localities across the republic. The pollsters are saying the error should not be in the excess of ±3%.
