TENDERS FOR BUYING CLEAN ENERGY TO BE HELD IN MOLDOVA

16 april, 2019

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is working on preparing auctions for large-scale projects on renewable energy sources in Moldova.

“Before May 10, the EBRD accepts applications from consultants for supporting the conducting of tenders for clean energy in 2019, and maybe in 2020”, the bank press release says.

During tenders, it is planned to conclude contracts on 80 MW of wind energy, 25 MW of photovoltaics and 8 MW of biogas. The bid is open for projects with the capacity of 1 MW and higher, except minimal threshold for wind stations – 4MW.

The basis of the campaign on renewable energy sources in Moldova were put by the entrance into force in March 2019 of a new law that demands starting of production of 168 MW of green energy across the country.

As of the end of 2018, over 50 solar energy projects have been implemented in Moldova with total capacity of 4 MW; currently, the ecosystem is dominated by small sets of panels (10 kW on average), installed on roofs. The capacities of photoelectric installations in future will not be restricted to 25 MW Moldova wants to put for auction in 2019 and 2020. 15 MW will be supported via the system of preferential tariffs.

In late February 2019, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) stated that installations with a capacity of up to 4.5 GW of solar energy, as well as 21 GW of wind energy, may be installed in Moldova at attractive financial conditions.
