PRESIDENT SUPPORTS MoF IN CANCELING RATES ON PAYMENTS TO NBM CONNECTED WITH BANK FRAUD

16 august, 2019

President Igor Dodon expressed support to the idea, proposed by Minister of Finance Natalia Gavrilita on canceling the interest rates on NBM credits, issued to three problematic banks in the period of the theft of the century.

At the Friday’s briefing during the Parliament sitting, the head of state said that he was from the very beginning against the idea of shouldering the burden of returning the stolen money on citizens.

“But it is totally unacceptable to force people to pay the interest rates, what are the state institutions for? We must find another decision, because it is about huge payments. This is why I support this initiative, but its details must still be discussed”, he said.

Commenting on the raising of VAT for the HoReCa segment, Dodon said that it is impossible to be satisfied with any raising of taxes.

“However, these changes may enter into force only in January, this is not the issue of today. I have to see the final version of amendments to the law, which will come to the Presidential Administration for approval. Then I will take the final decision, as the draft law may still be returned to the Parliament for additional discussions”, the president said.

Dodon also said that he is strengthening the presidential administration with professionals to help the Parliament and the Government to come with new initiatives. As an example, he cited the initiative on indexing pensions twice a year, unanimously supported in the Parliament, promising to make more proposals in future.
