BILL ON MORATORIUM ON LAW ON STOLEN BILLION REPAYMENT NOT INCLUDED INTO PARLIAMENT PLENARY AGENDA

19 december, 2019

Moldovan parliamentarians did not support the initiative of the “Demnitate si Adevar” Party to include in the sitting agenda the draft law on introducing moratorium on the fulfillment of the Law on issuing government bonds for executing by the Ministry of Finance of the payment liabilities on government guarantees given on November 17, 2014 and April 1, 2015.

DA faction Chairman Alexandru Slusari said at the Parliament’ sitting on Thursday that the Party of Socialists has been talking about the bank fraud during the entire election campaign, as well as was insisting that the stolen money to be returned by the guilty, but not by taxpayers.

“President Igor Dodon even initiated a referendum on canceling this law. We have one more party [the Democratic Party], whose representatives came to me several times in September and said that they will come with the initiative on canceling the law”, he said.

Slusari tried to explain the proposals of the faction, but his microphone was disconnected.

Speaker of the Parliament and Chairwoman of the PSRM Zinaida Greceanii said that the proposals of former parliamentary majority colleagues are populist and said that the solution to the problem with the stolen money demands a more professional approach.

Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance Vladimir Golovatiuc regards as improper the introduction of moratorium to the Law on the billion, as the problem of transferring the stolen billion was not resolved by means of moratorium.

“The moratorium is just a postponement, beside not the best variant of it. The state debt is not such a simple thing, it means state papers, who have deadline for redemption and they must be redeemed. This is why the moratorium is impossible. We stand for a policy decision, which is already being prepared. Corresponding initiatives will be proposed until spring”, he said.

The proposal was supported only by authors of the initiative and MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), who came to the sitting with banners “Not the citizens stole the billion!”.
