MFA HEAD DISCUSSES PARTNERSHIP OF RM WITH NATO IN BRUXELLES

Prospects for Moldova's partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance became the central topic of discussion at the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) Oleg Tulea and Deputy General Secretary of NATO Mircea Geoana in Bruxelles on Thursday.

As the MFAEI said, they agreed to continue supporting the reform and modernization of the Republic of Moldova, based on the requests of its authorities. The parties also confirmed their interest in continuing the political dialogue and implementing practical programs in the agreed areas. The interlocutors noted the activities to approve the new Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), the implementation of the NATO Assistance Package for strengthening the Moldovan defense and security potential, the implementation of projects under the Science for Peace and Security Program, cooperation in combating new security threats.

Tulea expressed his gratitude for the expert assessments and assistance to Moldova from NATO. He stressed his readiness to complete the IPAP approval process, which will identify priority areas for cooperation with the alliance for 2020-2022.

The Minister also welcomed the readiness of the Alliance to provide assistance to the Republic of Moldova within the framework of the new Professional Development Program (PDP), which will help achieve the training goals.

The ministry said in a statement that Geoana reaffirmed NATO's commitment to developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Moldova, taking into account its neutral status. He welcomed Moldova's contribution to strengthening security in Europe through the participation of the Moldovan militaries in the KFOR peacekeeping operation in Kosovo.
