18 september, 2020

The amount of unofficial payments paid annually by parents in the education system is 782.5 million lei per year. This is evidenced by the data of the research "Ethics and Academic Integrity in General Education. Unofficial payments at schools." It was presented on Thursday at a press conference by the Institute for Public Policy.

Parents pay 232.8 million lei annually for additional books and copybooks, 332.6 million lei - for individual lessons at school or outside, 44.8 million lei - for gifts to teachers, 90.5 million lei - for school events, 77.9 million lei for sports clubs and sections and about 3.9 million lei for raising grades.

It turns out that for each lei allocated by the state, parents contribute almost 0.9 lei.

Parents, for whom payments in schools are a heavy burden, constitute about 35%. At the same time, 37% of the respondents say that these payments are acceptable for them.

The survey was conducted in the summer of 2020 among 1,100 respondents.
