PPA EXPLAINS SITUATION AROUND MOLDOVAN GRANITE QUARRY IN UKRAINE

15 january, 2021

The Moldovan state enterprise called “Granite Gravel Quarry”, situated near the Ukrainian town of Pervomaisk, does not function and cannot resume its activities because it has no license, has been de-energized for several years now, and because its equipment has been flooded with water.

Such explanation was published today by the Moldovan Public Property Agency (PPA) in response to the criticism made on Thursday by Deputy Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Alexandru Slusari of the Platforma DA party, who claimed that the granite quarry had been seized by a Chisinau criminal group.

The Agency said that it had become the enterprise’s founder in 2018. And for 8 years before that, the former quarry director, engaged by the Ukrainian side, had worked to bring the enterprise to a catastrophic economic condition.

In 2019, by using fake documents, another administrator came to head the quarry, under whom an attempt was made to initiate the object’s bankruptcy.

However, after the PPA’s interference, the bankruptcy process was stopped, but the enterprise assets have not been returned to Moldova, so far. As a result of inefficient management, the quarry has incurred huge debts before the State Budget of Ukraine, and presently as many as 292 legal executive proceedings have been initiated against the Moldovan state enterprise.
