PRESIDENT MAIA SANDU COUNTS ON GROWTH OF MOLDOVAN EXPORTS TO EU COUNTRIES

In 2023, 65.4% of Moldovan exports were accounted for by EU countries, and the Moldovan authorities “are making efforts to ensure that this figure continues to grow.” This was stated by President Maia Sandu during a meeting with EU Ambassador to Chisinau Janis Mazeiks.

As INFOTAG was informed by the press service of the head of state, the parties discussed ”continuation of reforms in the country and the subsequent steps of the negotiation process on Moldova's accession to the EU. Currently, Moldovan and European institutions are assessing the compliance of national legislation with European legislation, for the subsequent adoption by the EU Council of negotiation frameworks for Moldova.

During the meeting, the president also touched upon the scheduled referendum for the autumn, where citizens ”will have the opportunity to express their will regarding Moldova's European future.”

The issue of organizing the referendum was also discussed at Sandu's meeting with representatives of national minorities of the republic.

According to the president, “EU accession brings a number of advantages for every citizen of Moldova, regardless of their ethnic background.”

“The European Union pays great attention to protecting minority rights and promoting cultural diversity, as well as providing financial assistance to support and develop communities, including national minorities. (...) Joining the European Union means peace, more investments in infrastructure, education, and local development projects, which will lead to an improvement in the quality of life for all citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” believs the head of state.

The head of state called on interlocutors to “support and promote the European path of the Republic of Moldova in the communities to which they belong.”
