11 april, 2024

State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Cristina Pereteatcu presented three energy connection projects between Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania at the Three Seas Initiative (I3M) summit in Vilnius on Thursday. The ministry's press service informed INFOTAG that due to the war in Ukraine, Moldova has faced “energy uncertainty and vulnerability.”

“Connecting the energy systems with Romania and Ukraine is of great importance for Moldova's security, and the development of environmentally friendly hydrogen production represents a decisive step in this direction. By participating in I3M, Moldova has the opportunity to strengthen energy independence and diversify its sources of supply,” said the state secretary.

The proposed projects involve improving regional interconnections, such as the construction of the second circuit of the 330 kV high-voltage power line “Balti – Dniester Hydroelectric Power Station” and the high-voltage power line “South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant – Primorsk – Vulcanesti – Isacha.” They also include increasing the capacity of the Trans-Balkan Gas Corridor and developing projects for green hydrogen production.

“The energy union projects with Ukraine and Romania will have a significant regional impact. They are proposed for funding and implementation through the tools available within I3M. Implementing the projects will strengthen energy security, promote development, and reduce environmental impact in the Central and Eastern European region,” emphasized the secretary.
