15 april, 2024

During more than 20 years, the French company Lafarge has invested approximately 40 million euros in a cement plant in Rezina, after its acquisition in 1999 with debts of 40 million lei. According to INFOTAG, the economic review “Logos-press” writes that the construction of the cement plant in the city of Rezina took about 10 years.

The plant produced its first products in 1985. Its capacity was 2.7 million tons of cement per year, with a total area exceeding 213 hectares. However, the fate of the enterprise turned out to be unenviable. Already in 1991, due to a sharp reduction in the market, the plant began to drastically reduce its volumes. As a result, its capacity was utilized at 12%. In 1994, the plant was reorganized into a joint-stock company Ciment with the majority stake held by the state. With debts of 40 million lei, SA Ciment was included in the privatization program, and Lafarge acquired it with such a “dowry.”

Only for the restoration of the plant, which lasted for five years, Lafarge invested $17.7 million.

The French investor managed to expand the range, put into operation an automatic cement loading station, and install modern equipment for packaging and laying cement.

New filters have been installed at the plant, reducing the level of harmful emissions. The plant became an example of rational business. In 2022, the revenue from sales of Lafarge Ciment Moldova amounted to 915 million lei, net profit - 121 million lei.
