MINISTER OF ENERGY DISCUSSES ADVANTAGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF “GREEN TRANSITION” IN ABU DHABI

18 april, 2024

Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov participated on Thursday in the second part of the 14th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency's (IRENA) General Assembly in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

As reported by the ministry's press service, the central theme of the discussions is the task of tripling renewable energy capacities by 2030. This commitment was signed by 118 countries in 2023, including Moldova.

A ministerial roundtable was held during the meeting, dedicated to the topic of geopolitical changes affecting global energy security. During the discussions, it was noted that the recent energy crisis caught the European continent off guard, causing EU consumers to pay more for energy due to dependence on fossil fuel imports.

Participants highlighted the successes of European countries in consolidating electricity grids, including the synchronization of Moldova and Ukraine's systems with the continental one (ENTSO-E). This has opened up new opportunities in the market and increased the level of energy supply security, strengthening Moldova's energy independence.

“On the sidelines” of the meeting, the minister met with representatives of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO). The parties exchanged views on cooperation with the Global Alliance for Green Economy (GAGE) led by the United Arab Emirates and WGEO, which will contribute to attracting investments in renewable energy projects.
