FAO TO PROVIDE US$800 THOUSAND FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN MOLDOVA

Moldovan villages and producers of berries will get support from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Corresponding agreements were signed by Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Vasile Batca and FAO representative to Moldova Raimund Jehle in Chisinau on Tuesday.

The Minister said that the first project with a budget of US$458 thousand is directed to farmer training. Within the project, leaflets will be prepared for berry producers about the ways of protecting, raising quality and volumes of harvest. Also, several demonstrative berry plantations, where farmers will have the possibility to see in practice how innovational technologies are functioning.

FAO representative in Moldova said that the second project with the budget of US$363 thousand will contribute to raising the potential in the field of agriculture and rural development policy. Three raions should be chosen, where pilot projects will be launched on implementing the plan of rural development.

“I want to say that Moldova is the first country, where FAO is implementing these two projects, designed for two years, at the same time. I hope, that these will allow Moldova achieving sustainable development”, Jehle said.
