20 march, 2018

The Moldovan State Tax Service launched on Monday a campaign on combating the phenomena of paying salaries in envelopes, announced head of the Service Department for Combating Violations Nicoleta Nemerenco at the Monday's press conference.

According to her, inspectors will hold random checks of economic agents all across the republic in two stages: the first will concern a small number of economic entities and will last 90 days, while the second will start immediately after the conclusion of the first and will affect a largest number of enterprises.

"We call on economic agents over these 90 days to harmonize with the law the reports and declarations on salary payment in order not to get in the list of the second stage of inspections and avoid punishment", she said.

Nemerenco said that for violating the tax service, tough punishments are implies besides the covering of the unpaid share of taxes.

"For each illegally employed worker, the enterprise risks being fined 210-300 conventional units (10.5-15 thousand lei or US$635-907). If in reports, employees' salary is indicated partly, the economic agent may be fined 1-1.5 thousand c.u. (50-75 thousand lei or US$3-4.5 thousand)", she said.

According to her, the campaign includes the informing of the population about the harmfulness of salaries in envelopes for the state budget by means of audio and video materials, prepared with the support of the British Government.
