SPEAKER CANDU SAYS U.S. TREASURY ASSESSES REFORMS IN MOLDOVA POSITIVELY

Representatives of the US Treasury gave a positive assessment to reforms in Moldova in the meeting they held in Washington DC with Moldovan Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu.

According to the Moldovan parliamentary press service, the meeting was attended also by Moldovan National Bank President Sergiu Cioclea and Moldovan Minister of Finance Octavian Armasu; and from the American side – by Andrew Baukol, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Monetary Policy, the United States Department of the Treasury; Evangelia Bouzis – Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia; Larry McDonald – Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Treasury; and IMF officials – Associate Director Paul Leonovich and Patricia Pollard of the IMF Office in the USA.

The US officials called on the Moldova leadership to proceed with finance reforms and confirmed readiness to further render support and share experience to help consolidate the Moldovan banking and finance system. The U.S. Treasury representatives highly appreciated the Moldovan government’s actions taken to combat money laundering.

The interlocutors also made a review of the actions taken by Chisinau to meet Moldova’s commitments to the International Monetary Fund.

The American officials pointed out Moldova’s economic growth, a good tax administering, creation of conditions for building up State Budget revenues, and efforts to create a transparent tax system and good conditions for running business.
