NEW CHIEF OF IMF MISSION TO MOLDOVA MEETS ECONOMY MINISTER

The International Monetary Fund is registering progress, achieved by Moldovan authorities in the banking sector, the improvement of banks' financial situation and the economic policy, stated new Chief of the IMF Mission for Moldova Ruben Atoyan at the meeting with Moldovan Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici on Thursday.

According to the Ministry, the new IMF Mission head assured the Moldovan Minister that the Fund will continue providing support to Moldovan authorities in fulfilling the three-year cooperation program, signed on November 7, 2016.

In his turn, the Minister said that Moldovan authorities highly appreciate the IMF support in strengthening and developing financial and banking sector.

"Moldova will keep giving priority to the program with the IMF and will focus on the reform implementation. We are making efforts for preserving positive trend of economic growth in 2017 - 4.5%, raising of investments, job creation, implementing of social programs, directed to improving Moldovan people's living standards", he said.

The sides discussed the process of fulfilling the Program of cooperation between the Government and the National Bank of Moldova with the IMF. Recently, the IMF Board of Executive Directors approved the results of the third review mission, issuing a new tranche of financial assistance worth US$33.75 million to the republic. The total volume of IMF financing within the current three-year program implies the providing of US$180 million to Moldova.
