FILIP SAYS IT WILL BE HARD WITHOUT EU MACRO-FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, BUT GOVERNMENT WILL MANAGE

06 august, 2018

It will be indeed hard for Moldova to work and live without the European Union’s macro-financial assistance, but the Government will manage the hardships, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated to journalists on Friday after the ceremony of opening the detour road around Ungheni build thanks to the European Union’s financial assistance.

Filip said that the macro-financial assistance suspension is certainly a negative factor that will tell adversely on the Government’s budgetary policy.

“The EU money was projected to be used for important goals. But against the background of an economic growth, I guess the Government will be able to overcome temporary difficulties and to achieve the main goal – to make Moldova an economically developed state”, stressed the Premier.

Commenting on the European Union’s attitude to the Moldovan authorities in connection with recent developments, Ambassador Peter Michalko said he had repeatedly presented the European Union’s position on the issue “that has not changed”.

“The Republic of Moldova is going through alarming events related to the non-validation of the Chisinau mayoral election results and to the hasty and non-transparent approval of the package of laws on tax reform. All this is in disharmony with the EU-Moldova Association Agreement and with the Memorandum on providing the macro-financial assistance”, said the diplomat.

Earlier, Peter Michalko stated repeatedly that the European Union had to put forth a number of tough conditions to the Moldovan authorities that had to be fulfilled for resumption of the macro-financial assistance. Among those were measures of economic as well as political character, including the holding of a free and democratic parliamentary election in February 2019.
