IMF MISSION AND MOLDOVAN AUTHORITIES TO CONTINUE DIALOG ON PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

21 september, 2018

The IMF mission decided to maintain a close dialogue with the Moldovan authorities in the period ahead on the implementation of the IMF-supported program under the Extended Credit Facility and the Extended Fund Facility arrangements.

According to the IMF Representation in Chisinau, a corresponding agreement was achieved at the conclusion of the visit of the IMF mission led by Ruben Atoyan to Moldova on September 3 through 20.

"During the mission, we held discussions with the authorities on the execution of the 2018 budget, plans for the 2019 budget, and implementation of financial sector reforms. We also discussed the recently approved package of tax initiatives and capital and tax amnesty, including measures needed to strengthen governance, improve tax compliance, preserve sustainability of public finances, and reduce regressivity of the tax system", stated the Mission head.

As Infotag has already reported, the goal of the visit was not a formal survey on the Moldova-IMF Program, but the collecting of information about the macroeconomic situation, the discussion of the fiscal and monetary policy, as well as other important policies within the context of the current program.

"Such visits are a standard practice within the cooperation with countries, which are implementing programs with the IMF assistance and are conducted outside the frames of official cycle of program surveys", explained IMF Permanent Representative to Moldova Volodymyr Tulin before the mission visit.
