TEACHERS AGAIN DEMAND 50% HIGHER SALARIES

08 octomber, 2018

A group of teachers came to protest in front of the Government in their professional holiday - the World Teachers' Day. They demand the authorities to raise salary in education by 50%.

The action was held under the slogan "Teacher, not a beggar!" and gathered around 20-30 people.

One of teachers said that in Moldova, unlike in the rest of the world, the Government does not regard the education sphere as a priority.

"We again urge the country leadership to listen to the demands of teachers and parents, who cannot finance this field from their own pockets anymore. We demand decent salaries so that we not to get to stand with outstretched hand", she said.

According to the protesters, the Government should better plan the state budget, to less spend on power structures and more - to education. They say that if the authorities do not intervene to resolve this problem, within several years teachers will leave the country and it would be too late to do something.

Teachers brought a blackboard to the protest, on which it was written: "Homework: Decent salaries in education. Grade - 2". They tried to circle the Government building, but police officers blocked their road, explaining this by presence of a foreign delegation in the building and the strengthened security measures.
