COMMUNISTS DEMAND GOVERNMENT TO RAISE SOCIAL ALLOWANCES

17 january, 2019

The Moldovan Communist Party (MCP) expressed indignation about the discrimination of people with disabilities, who did not benefit from raising of salaries.

In an open letter to the Moldovan Government, the MCP said that according to changes to the legislation, pensions which are lower than the subsistence wage (1589 lei) were raised 10% since January 1, 2019. This concerns in particular those who are receiving old-age pensions, disability pensions, pensions on the loss of caregiver, retirement pensions, law enforcement employees - all those who have labor experience and was conducting insurance payments to the Social Fund.

"Meanwhile, persons with disabilities, who are unable to work from the very birth or from childhood, are receiving social allowances, but not pensions, and despite the fact that the size of these allowances is much smaller than the subsistence wage, they have not been raised, which is a discrimination of persons with disabilities", Communists say.

In this connection, the MCP demands to eliminate the discrimination against people born with disabilities or disabled from childhood and ensure the 10% raising of social allowances for them.
