MOLDOVA WILL NOT GET CREDIT FROM ROMANIA IN CASE OF GOVERNMENT DISMISSAL – MAIA SANDU

12 november, 2019

The credit worth 100 million euros for 2020 and 2021 from the Government of Romania will not be allocated to Moldova if the Moldovan Government is dismissed, stated Prime Minister Maia Sandu from the Parliament rostrum on Tuesday.

“As for the financial assistance from other external partners, this will depend on concrete actions of the Government and the reforms it must implement. The key reform is the real reform of justice, but not empty talks as it was before”, Sandu said.

Asked to what extent the 2020 budget depends on the financial assistance from external partners, Minister of Finance Natalia Gavrilita said that besides the 100-million-lei credit from Romania, the budget implies other money.

“In particular, there are money from the European Union (the third tranche worth 30 million euros), US$50 million from the World Bank (WB) and the credit from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) within the program with Moldovan Government, which was extended till March 2020”, the minister said.

Prime Minister Maia Sandu pointed at the fact that external partners give money not “for beautiful eyes”, but for concrete actions of the Government in conducting of reforms. She did not exclude that in case her Government is dismissed, the external partners may close their doors for Moldova.

Asked why the 2020 draft budget has not been presented to the Parliament on October 15, the premier said that the process was delayed because the Government was seeking resources to ensure many social initiatives.
