BALTI MAYOR DECIDES TO PAY US$1,000 PER MONTH TO ALL DOCTORS TREATING CoV PATIENTS

07 april, 2020

Starting from this April 1, Mayor of Balti city Renato Usatii will be personally paying US$1,000 a month to each medical doctor taking part in the ongoing battle against the novel coronavirus.

In his video address to Moldova citizens he made in social networks on Monday, Usatii said that nurses will be monthly receiving US$400 from his pocket, and hospital attendants -- US$250 each. In his words, the Balti municipal authorities have decided to provide a municipal 60-room hotel for medical workers.

“I am addressing to all economic operators and people of business having financial possibilities to follow this example and render help to the medics on the frontline of the struggle against the COVID-19 spread”, said Renato Usatii, the leader of the Partidul Nostru (Our Party, OP), who explained that the money for repaying his personal extras to medical workers he will take from selling his personal Rolls-Royce.

He called on the entrepreneurs supplying medical equipment and medicines to hospitals to “stop robbing the health sector and medics. In war periods like now, what you are doing is called marauding. President Dodon’s era is approaching its end. Think hard, and return your pillage. May be this will be taken into account and make your prison sentences milder”.

The Balti Mayor accused the Moldovan authorities of organizing the supplying of expensive medical equipment, medicines, face masks etc. by placing large orders with certain companies having dubious reputation. He voiced discontent that the National Commission for Emergency Situations has not yet provided to the Balti municipal administration the promised food parcels for low-income Balti citizens.
