AMBASSADOR OF FRANCE STRESSES THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVING NBM’S INDEPENDENCE

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Lise Pascal Le Deunff, has stressed the importance of preserving the independence of the National Bank of Moldova in the course of his Wednesday’s meeting with NBM President Octavian Armasu.

The interlocutors discussed the macro-economic and financial situation in Moldova, the activities of the Moldovan banking sector and the measures undertaken by the central bank to oppose to the negative consequences of the pandemic crisis.

The diplomat reminded about the important support to Moldova, rendered in this period by the European Union – not only for struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic but also for restoration of the national economy, for minimization of social consequences due to suspended economic activities.

The parties discussed the future Program of cooperation between the International Monetary Fund and the Republic of Moldova. The diplomat confirmed the support rendered by France to the reform going on in the Moldovan banking system.

“We highly assess the work done and the progress achieved by the National Bank in reforming the banking sector. We hope these efforts will be continued for the sake of achieving the stability of the banking sphere and financial stability of the country”, said Ambassador Lise Pascal Le Deunff.
