19 april, 2024

The next Mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), headed by Clara Mira, will arrive in Chisinau on April 22 and will stay until May 2. The head of the IMF permanent mission in Moldova, Svetlana Cerovic, announced this on Friday.

"The mission will hold discussions in the context of the fifth evaluation of the program supported by the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), as well as the first evaluation of the program supported by the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF)," she said.

The mission will analyze recent developments in the economy and the progress made in the authorities' program and update the data, assessing the outlook at the macroeconomic level.

The arrival of the mission will take place four months after the unexpected decision of the Parliament to dismiss the governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Octavian Armasu, about the expediency of which some representatives of the Fund had certain questions and doubts.

Moldova currently has a 40-month Program with the IMF, approved on December 21, 2021. Under this program, lending amounts to 780 million dollars, of which Moldova has already received about 460 million dollars.

In December 2023, the IMF approved another program for Moldova, supported by an RSF facility for about 170 million dollars. The RSF facility has a maturity of 20 years and a grace period of 10.5 years.
