MOLDOVA TO HAVE NEW AMBASSADOR OF UKRAINE

30 octomber, 2014

On Wednesday, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a Decree on revoking Sergey Pirozhkov as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary from Moldova.

The Decree said that the revocation followed in response to Pirozhkov’s application to resign due to his reaching a ceiling age. The diplomat will turn on 66 later this year.

Sergey Pirozhkov was appointed to Moldova in 2007. He is not a career diplomat. He graduated from Kiev Institute of National Economy, worked at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and created several institutes, including the Institute of Demography and Social Researches and the National Institute of Strategic Researches currently functioning under the Ukrainian president’s auspices.

Last several years, Sergey Pirozhkov has been the doyen of the foreign diplomatic corps in Moldova.

During his ambassadorial tenure, Moldova and Ukraine had practically settled the border demarcation problem and advanced considerably in resolving the question of recognition of the countries’ property situated in each other’s territories.
