EPP AND PES WELCOME FORMATION OF GOVERNING COALITION IN MOLDOVA

27 january, 2015

The European People’s Party and the Party of European Socialists have expressed support to the governing Alliance for European Moldova formed by the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party last Friday.

MEP Joseph Daul, Chairman of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group in the European Parliament, has sent an appeal to Moldovan Liberal Democrats, writing that despite some omissions, Moldova should not waste time and should immediately embark on implementation of reforms aimed at approximation with the European Union.

Joseph Daul wrote that the Liberal Party’s decision to self-isolate itself from coalition job left the rest forces no other option except forming a minority government, otherwise the country could have to hold an early election that could led to a deep political crisis. And though this is not the best scenario possible, the Alliance must now form a government of reforms so strongly wanted by Moldova citizens, said the document.

The EPP leader called upon the Liberal Democratic Party and Democratic Party to form a new Moldovan Government within a shortest-possible time that would receive the support of all those parliamentary factions who view Moldova as a part of the European family. And Europe will render all necessary assistance.

PES Chairman Sergey Stanishev sent a congratulation to the Democratic Party of Moldova on the occasion of the AEM formation.

“Our DP friends were acting correctly and responsibly. It took 2 months to achieve this result, and we regret that the Liberal Party was not flexible enough to remain in the pro-European coalition. Today Moldova needs to make the political leaders put aside their differences and start working for a better future of their citizens”, wrote Stanishev.

Infotag’s dossier: On January 23, the Liberal Democratic Party and Democratic Party announced their forming the said governing alliance which, however, lacks votes enough for passing important decisions in parliament. LDPM leader Vlad Filat addressed to all parliamentary factions to join efforts and de-block the Parliament’s work. But his appeal was heard only by the Communist Party.
