EX-PREMIER IURIE LEANCA BELIEVES RM-EU RELATIONS ARE AT DEADLOCK AND NEXT TO BANKRUPTCY

22 may, 2015

Moldova’s previous Prime Minister Iurie Leanca has called upon compatriots not to believe in sweet news coming from Riga about the Eastern Partnership Summit. He stated at a news conference here today that the Riga forum is not discussing the question of admitting Moldova to the European Union, as some local mass media are already saying.

In his words, the Riga Summit must have become an important event for the country and a new stage of the bilateral EU-RM relations, “but the forum cannot be called other than a disastrous one”.

“We should admit that things are developing in an erroneous direction. After the previous Eastern Partnership Summit held in Vilnius (Lithuania) in November 2013, the Moldovan authorities have actually nothing to boast of. I hope Riga will become a cold shower for them”, said Iurie Leanca.

In his words, the previous Cabinet of Ministers, which he headed, had achieved serious results, “which cannot be said of the Gaburici Cabinet”.

“Without a foreign pressure, we will be not able to implement a real reform in the judiciary system to stop public institutions serve the selfish narrow interests of certain individuals and parties. Currently, Moldova has no clear European perspective, though as recently as before the November 30 elections, both Berlin and Brussels were ready to discuss Moldova’s approximation with the European Union”, said the former prime minister.

Infotag’s dossier: On Friday, Riga is hosting the 4th Eastern Partnership Summit. The international mass media are reporting that no sensational decisions should be expected from the assembly. The final declaration will say nothing about providing a European perspective for the Eastern Partnership countries.
