​PRESIDENT APPROVES NEW MEMBERSHIP OF SUPREME SECURITY COUNCIL

President Nicolae Timofti has signed on Tuesday the decree on approving the new membership of the Moldovan Supreme Security Council (SSC). The President itself remained the Council’s chairman, while Alexei Barbaneagra, the Presidential Adviser on Defense and National Security Issues, remained the SSC secretary.

Speaker of the Parliament Adrian Candu, Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee on National Security, Defense and Public Order Veaceslav Untila, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman, Minister of the Interior Oleg Balan, Finance Minister Anatol Arapu, Information and Security Service Director Mihai Balan, National Anti-Corruption Center Director Viorel Chetraru, Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, General Secretary of the President’s Apparatus Ion Paduraru and Moldovan Academy of Sciences President Gheorghe Duca also preserved their posts in the SSC.

Former premier Chiril Gaburici and ex-minister of defense Viorel Cibotaru were excluded from the SSC due to the change of the Government and will be substituted by new Premier Valeriu Strelet and new Defense Minister Anatol Salaru.

Also, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov was excluded from the Council, though he preserved his post in the new Government.

His place was occupied by Liberal Party Leader Mihai Ghimpu, who, jointly with leaders of the LDPM and DP Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu - also members of the SSC, created the new ruling Alliance for European Integration-3.

The first meeting of the Supreme Security Council will take place already on Wednesday in the morning. The main topic of discussion will be the socio-political, financial and economic situation in Moldova.
